A Clearer Way To Manage Appliance Safety

Portable appliances move between desks, classrooms, workshops and shared spaces every day. A planned PAT testing programme helps identify damaged equipment and gives your organisation a clear record of what has been checked.

CTS plans each visit around your site, operating hours and asset volume. Our engineers test, label and record equipment efficiently so facilities teams can keep people safe without creating unnecessary disruption.

Compliance FAQs

The Electricity at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1991 require electrical systems to be maintained so far as is reasonably practicable to prevent danger. The Regulations do not prescribe PAT testing or a universal testing interval. Inspection and testing can form part of a risk based maintenance programme where it is appropriate for the equipment and its use.
The duty holder should consider the equipment type, how it is used, whether it is moved, the working environment and previous inspection results. These factors help determine whether user checks, formal visual inspection or electrical testing is appropriate.
There is no universal annual interval for every appliance. Frequency should be based on risk, including equipment type, use, movement, environment, manufacturer information and previous findings. The programme should be reviewed if faults become more common or the way equipment is used changes.
